Although Maldives may appear small on the map, the archipelago actually consist of more than a thousand islets. Some are inhabited and others, well, are deserted islands nonetheless beautiful! Plan on going island hopping? Here are a few helpful tips on methods of transport you could opt for.
Landing in Male
You will be landing at the Velana International Airport which is situated on the main island of the Maldives. From here you can either opt to take a speedboat or seaplane to your resort. Representatives from your hotel will be waiting to guide you at the airport.
Dhoni ride
Some resorts may offer an island-hopping experience on a dhoni. This is a traditional Maldivian boat and is quite romantic too. The ride is best if you are hoping to visit islands that are closer to your resort island as the journey via dhoni is quite slow. You can also opt for just a short sunset cruise on a dhoni at resorts like Reethi Faru Resort.
Speedboat travel
If you would prefer a more luxurious feel while you travel or need to get to your destination faster, you could opt for a speedboat ride for island hopping. Although, this might be a little pricier than the dhoni rides.
Seaplane transfers
Suppose your island-hopping experience is on an island that is quite far from your resort island, a seaplane transfer would be best. You will also have the chance of getting a bird’s eye view of the surroundings. But before you decide on your method of transport, make your decision on where to stay in Maldives.
